Katy advises on divorce and all financial claims on divorce and separation including for unmarried parents and matters involving children. She has particular experience of high net worth schedule 1 matters, finance matters involving a farming element and cases of children relocating internationally. Katy trained in complex children matters (public and private and child abduction) before moving into high net worth divorce and finance practice.
Katy has specialist domestic abuse experience. She is co-chair of Resolution’s National Domestic Abuse Committee. Katy has written articles and comments for Resolution’s ‘The Review’ and other national publications about domestic abuse in family law practice, as well as contributing to Resolution’s report on Domestic Abuse in Financial Remedy Proceedings.
Katy’s practice is trauma informed (as trained by Innisfree Therapy) and she has been been trained by Safe Lives (a charity committed to ending domestic abuse) as a legal professional.
Katy joined Burgess Mee as a solicitor in November 2022. She read Law at Pembroke College, Cambridge and then went on to do her Masters of Law at SOAS, University of London specialising in Law and Gender. Her dissertation closely analysed The Gender Recognition Act 2004 and its proposals for reform.
Outside of work, Katy enjoys yoga classes, tennis and visiting art galleries and exhibitions. She loves to travel and spend time back home in Scotland, especially by the sea.
